Blog Change

Several of our readers have asked us to slow down a bit - to give folks some time to comment and think about our postings - so we will show a new ABC on Mondays and add links and great quotes from time to time in-between - thanks for the great response.

See the "C"

C = COMMUNICATE !

Now a lot of folks (mainly bosses)  think that talking "at you" is communication.  And some "listeners" are thinking of the next comment (can I top this? syndrome) and not really listening but waiting to get a chance to comment or respond

When you see the "C" in communication -- close the loop.  Communication is really an "O" = Message - reception - process - feedback.  How does one get feedback - simple!

Ask for it?

"Are we on the same page?"  is a good way of getting it.   You will be surprised how many times we don't communicate.  And email is sometimes a step down from one of the weakest forms of communication - telephone conversations of the past.  At least the phone was in real time not cyberspace-time..

Reiterate the charge or the question or request and add a "positive response" for all important emails - and this doesn't mean the person agrees with you;  it means  you are asking did they get the message and understand the deadline or task it communicates???.

Get it? Got It?  GOOD !

NEXT ABC SUBJECT

SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN POSTING - WE GOT THE FLU !  YIKES!!!!

B = "Be There Now"  One of the great customer satisfaction trainings courses THE ISZARD GROUP offers - THE FISH Philosophy started at the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle WA. and its wonderful lessons have since spread around the world. (If you don't know about it, Google FISH and see what it's all about.)  Here's one of the four guiding principles of FISH - Be There...be in the present for your customers, your employees.

 I managed many associates in my big business life and one of my subordinates, FRED, pointed out to me one day that he always knew when a meeting with me was over - I started shuffling papers on my desk!

Do you sneak looks at your watch while listening to an employee's problems?  Gaze out the window when talking to a customer?  People feel they don't count if you don't give them you undivided attention...if you don't have the time when someone drops in, tell 'em to come back or make an appointment -- "so I can give you the undivided attention you deserve

Have you used A: Always Inform = Why?
And now your are committed to BEING THERE !

Watch for "C" in the next

"A"

"A" = Always Inform

 One of the hardest things to master and maintain for any business, government agency or small non-profit is one of our most basic tools - communication. What seems to be so simple -  keeping customers, employees and constituents informed is a major stumbling block for a great many organizations.

Key Learning:  Always tell your people or your boss not only what you are doing, but WHY.  Messages need to cascade down from superiors and also bubble back up -- to complete the communication loop...And don't assume that those you communicate with "are getting it" !

Make sure you close the loop and take the time to see that everyone is in that loop...everyone, making "informed" decisions will improve your business - that's is a sure bet.
